A while ago there was this video by Captain Bill Salmon where he was testing the breaking strength of 7 stranded and in one case 19 stranded wire line.

I went searching for the the torpedo wire and around Rochester I only found the Mason wire,the price of which varied between $36 and $44 per 1000 foot spool of 30 pound test.On Line and on E-Bay the Torpedo was about $40 per thousand foot instead of the $25 it said on the video.

Just today I swung into S&R tackle nearby Sea Breeze on Culver and there it was. Torpedo wire for $22,89 per thousand foot. He has about 7 spools left and will not buy anymore till next year. If you need the wire ,then this is a chance to get good stuff for cheap.

that price is right for the torpedo seven strand. the 19 strand is the wire that is around $40.

I went to S-R this morning and bought the last 1000ft. of seven strand. It will be the last torpedo I'll buy. For some reason the wire was wound around it self and you couldn't get it off the spool and onto the reel It ended up a mess and I ended up cutting about 25yds off to straighten it out. Never had any trouble with Mason. Any one else have trouble with it.

i ran the 7 strand last year.. complained to the company about the knot strenghth and much fraying.... they suggested trying the 19 strand...so i bought 3 spools of the 19 strand this spring.....still junk..... back to 7 strand malin for me

I tried 19 strand torpedo wire last season and took it off my reel after 3 trips. I had problems with it fraying and untwisting. I went back to Malin 7 strand and have no issues.

I thought I read a while back there was a problem with one of the wire lines and torpedo could be the one. Its on the reel now so I'll see how it holds up. Thanks for getting back to me.

when running it out be sure to check it closely.... i found a bad spot at 250' the other day

19 strand runs close in price... just the way its made i guess

I bought a 1000' spool of 7 strand in May and haven't had any trouble with it. Bought another spool July 16 2011 and had 2 break offs in a matter of 5 minutes. Thought I may have gotten a bad spool, but after reading this thread I'm gonna buy malin. It may cost a little more up front, but I just lost $60.00 + in tackle in a matter of minutes.
