I'm considering a 3 - 5 day backpack adventure for bears up in the Adirondacks this fall........ done plenty of BP hunting out west, and thought I should give it a try closer to home this year.... No Montana Tag :( ..... Anybody have experience with this, or have some advice on an area to try, or what to look for in an area? It would be the early season........ Thanks.

If you really want a bear, forget the mountains and find a farmer with corn in St. Lawrence, Clinton, or Franklin counties. During the early season they are feeding heavily on the milky corn.

Try to find Black Cherries the mountains in September. There's some just East of Beaver River Station and I have seen the sign in this area. A friend of mine says Moose River Plains has them also.

The key to early bear in the mountains is food food food, Corn fileds are hard to come by but are a great source however I thnik the #1 source to get a bear in the early season would be locating a old apple orchard. Bears can't seem to resist apples in the fall and they generally don't hang out to far away. I'm not sure you have to do much backpcking most mast crop areas will be closer to the roadways
