Tried it again today. Only caugh 1 SM and 1 Pike. Both hit dropshot roboworms. SM was nothing to brag about, but it was better than sleeping in!

27-30' was what we stayed in. I think we should have went deeper.

do the smallies ever come in shallow, so shore bound fisher people like me can still play with them?? I have been fishing shorelines and see plenty of baitfish and crayfish around soaking up the sun, so I wonder if the smallies come find them?

Yeah, but only really when they spawn. The SM are ghosts there during the summer for some reason.

We have been finding our fish 25-30. Nothing shallow for us but that doesnt mean they arent there.

One thing about smallmouth, and I fish all summer on Keuka, is that they're in close to shore early mornings & during the evening. I usually fish poppers with the flyrod, and I start getting excited as dusk approaches.
