15 hp merc 4 stroke

I have a new to me 15 horse merc 4 stroke. It fires right up but stalls when you push the choke off. Runs excellent with the choke on. Any ideas on how to fix before I take to the shop? Thanks

Is there a fuel filter to check? With our extra ethnohol in the fuel it seems to bring up all the crude in the tank.

has the carb been cleaned. On my big motor the same thing happend where it would run with the choke pushed in and sputter out when the choke was dissengaged. I was told when I bought my 8 hp kicker (new) to unhook the fuel hose and let it run itself out of gas so there was no gas in the carb or it could gum it up.
