cut bait rigs?

I am fishing out of Oswego and I would like to try cut bait and was wondering what flasher style/color/brand. First year fishing regularly and would like to try different things, but economically if there is such a thing.

Also what is a good length from the ball to flasher/fly? Been running 9ft and getting hits in the morning and evening but midday slow. Lengthen or shorten or is that only crucial for water conditions such as calm or rough.
