How long should a flourocarbon leader be on leadcore for trout /salmon? Thanks BP

I use 100' but you will get a hundred different answers to this one. Some guys swear by 25'. If you do 100' by the end of the season it wil lbe down quite a bit. There is no wrong asnwer to this as long as your above 25' IMHO

Lead core is very speed sensitive... a change in boat speed, wave action or direction will cause the lead core to rise and fall in the water column. The shorter the mono leader, the more rise and fall the lure has.... longer leaders will mean less vertical lure movement. I like the shorter ( 20-30ft ) leaders so my baits move up and down a bit. If I want to hold at an exact depth, I will run a long lead off a downrigger.

Just my $.02

25-100' is fine and dandy but are you using Fluro? Most fluro leader spools are 75 feet or are you just using a big spool of regular fluro or just regular mono ? BP

I use Seguar Invis-X flouro. 20lb. on lead core and rigger rods, 12lb. in the spring off the boards. I use the flouro. line, not leader material..... comes in 200 yd. spools.
