:D Hello all,

Me and some friends of mine are comming up to the big lake in August on the 25th till the 29th. Have fished before but never herd of copper wire do we have to have it to fish on our boat or can we still use regular fishing line. Penn 320GTI reels . Down riggers & Planning Boards. are dipsys better then riggers :?: are E-Chips that good  been going for about 10 years so we have a ton of spoons and jointed plugs and straights.

Thanks for any help. Dale

Hi Dale,

You've been going to the big lake a lot longer than I, but I figured I offer what I can. The Pro-Troll E-chip flashers are worth it. A lot of people like Spin Doctors, but in my limited time on the water, we did better with the PT. We used pretty much only A-Tom-Mik flies behind the PTs, almost always white/white/ green/green, or white and green. We took about half on boards & flies, and half on sppons. Most of the spoons they hit were Northern King (NK) 28 or MAG sized spoons, with Orange Monkey Puke being the most popular. That said, that was last year:) I won't be up on the Lake until the 25th, but there is plenty of good info on the board, especially what's hot right now.

Last year we fished exclusively off our four downriggers. This year we are adding both dipsys and a copper rod for the first time. From reading all the posts, running wire dipseys is the thing to do. Some folks will tell you that on a given day, it's the only thing that'll get hit.

Hopefully this will be of some help. Good luck, and may your drags be screaming!

Thank you for the info, I guess i will be going to ATOMIC Flies and give them a try. What is with the copper wire how does that help with fishing and the flies.

Dale,

I've been fishing out of Sodus most weekend for the past 4 years. Skip the copper and buy two stainless steel wire spools of 1000ft. Malin wire is the most popular. Then get two large (not mag) dipseys to go with them. I have used the echips in the past and honestly, I don't think it matters what you use as long as it spins and has the right color :) I was having poor hookups with my atomik flies, so I tried a couple "siggs rigs" flies and have been sticking with them since. Either one works though.

I'll be up at Sodus from Aug 25th - Sep 4th, feel free to stop by and see me at Arneys marina or give me a call on my cell 484-302-1590.

Bob,

Thank you for the info i will give you a shout when we get up there and see what i can learn this year. thank you again . was going to buy some setups from Atom-mik speckled green and other colors that people are saying. Is it worth the money?

I have never used dipseys before are they easy to use and are they better then downriggers. what is the advantage or disadvantage.

Thanks

Dale,

You'll want to have both. I have weeks where my riggers will fire and my dipseys won't... and weeks where my dipseys will fire and my riggers won't. I run 4 rods, two dipseys, two riggers. The past three weekends I've caught about 25 of my 28 fish on dipseys. The two weekends before that it was more even at 50%/50%.

I would buy one or two boards online so you are ready to go when you get here. One green one white would be my suggestion. Also, buy two or three flies... I use only green flies these days it seems, but occasionally white. Never had any luck with blue, but other people have.

Nick,

Could you make any suggestions on where to buy them who has a good price for the buck, and is there sizes that i should look at ?

Could you send me a link telling me where and which ones work for you .

I know you had explain it but i rather try something i know people are using that works.
