Hi - I am looking for real trout/salmon trolling application feedback with the Humminbird 898C SI.

Is side imaging useful for trolling in shallow/deep water?

Is down imaging useful for trolling?

does it pickup downriggers ok?

Will it detect & show the thermocline?

Surface temp work good?

Does GPS navigating back to the spot where the hooks were work easily?

Any issues or problems & suggestions?

Thank you for any help you provide.

Matt

I've got a 900 and an 1100 series. Bought them two seasons ago. Not one problem with them, and they work very good. The SI and DI technology hasn't caught on in the trolling world on Lake O yet, and I'm not sure it will anytime soon. Not much need for it over deep water. The OS for the Humminbirds is very easy to pick up on, and navigate through their menus. Many people who have fished on our boat are very impressed with these new Humminbird units. it's not a Walmart brand anymore, and they continue to improve upon a great product.

I've also got the 900 series and have used it for the past 6 seasons without a hitch. Update every year thru the computer plug-in & good to go. I'd very highly recommend it also.
