Well, I have not used the laptop for a nav unit, but if you can get a USB gps module of some kind, and have software to install for nav maps or charts, you should be able to get the program to recognize the gps hardware.

If you have a broadband USB connection card for the internet, a lot of those have gps capability and will work with almost any mapping software if the match can be made. In any case you will first need the gps USB module and find mapping software compatible with it. Shop the internet for something like navionics for laptops and see if they already come with a USB module. Hope this helps

You can download Garmin maps from their website into your computer. These are the same maps that you would get on a cartridge. Next you can download these maps from your computer onto a cartridge and take it fishing. You can also take your garmin cartridge with all the routes and markings that you put on it while you were on the water and download it onto the map you have on your computer. In short, you can plan your trip on the computer,download it onto your cartridge and take your computer planned trip.
