Fish Doctor and Miss-Em makes a sweet 7' roller rod that flat out whups those kings . My old fishing partner was 86 and could handle kings on the wire with these rods.:yes:

I doubt you will find much shorter in an actual dipsy rod. They have to be limber (have some give) to handle the shock that the waves and rising and falling boat place on it against the pull of the dipsy, since the dipsy doesn't tend to want to rise and fall with the boat. Much shorter and the stress of the bending will be placed over too small an area of the rod and be subject to breakage or else the rod would have to be so thin that it would have no backbone to counteract the dig of the dipsy, trip the dipsy or fight the fish.

This will be the third season I've used 7' Shimano TDR rods for the Dipseys. They are one piece in MH power. I Added the Torpedo roller tips, Twili Tips are another option. The action is right, they hold up well and are inexpensive (around $25)...model # TDR70MHB

I've used Fish Doctors 7' roller rods, they are VERY nice rods, well made with rollers that don't let the wire bind in the frames.
