quick question when you store your boat for an extended period of time should you keep it tilted up with the stand up for trim it all the way down?

All the way down to keep the water drained out of the lower unit, particularly when its exposed to the elements and freezing temps may be expected

I keep mine down but my father in law leaves his up because he says "it puts pressure on the hydrualic pistons." he thinks his went bad from that but I have stored mine down with no problems. Also I don't like the idea of water being able to freeze in the lower unit from being tilted up.
