Quick question:

Does anyone run Monofilament planer line for a particular reason?

My gut is it switch over the Reels I just got to a fiber-type system.

I know it has more stretch and may be more forgiving in that regard, but wanted to get everyone's opinion on this subject.

When you say planer line, do you mean that the reel mounted on your planer mast is spooled with heavy mono?

This will be year #3 using the same 200# Mono on my planer reels... when I think about it I spray it with Blakely "Reel Magic" (or WD40)...the releases run out smoothly....I use Otterboats with double keels...I like the slight amount of stretch

I was warned that the mono can "tighten" on itself under the load and crack the spool.... because of this I wound on some old Dacron I had from icefishing( about 1/2" thick) before I loaded the mono........ ("knock on wood") I haven't had any problems

I know another guy who has 5 yrs on his mono line...still no problems

I use the 500 lb spectra braid planer line from Amish Outfitters nice and slick, the releases slide right down.

Go with the 500 spectra...I have to switch over my 250 power pro because each side has a blood knot holding it together. Both sides snapped on seperate occasions just trolling in around 3 footers
