Crappies

Hard to believe I'm catching quality crappies in the St Lawrence River in March. Good average size and we actually caught twice as many as in the photo but my buddy took half.

Largest is nearly 14".

Niiicce! Don't live up that way, but have done plenty of fishing and camping there....on the Canadian side, too. Where'd U catch those?

If I told you I'd have to kill you but they are where the water warms more quickly (shallow bays, canals, tributaries, marinas etc. The minnows move into the warmer water and the crappies follow. French Creek in Clayton is often hot. This happens well before the spawn and typically in early May. Not this year!

'Nuff said! Sounds pretty typical, but just early. Makes sense weatherwise. Thanx, and more good fishing...(and eating)!

Haven't tried since but cold weather has likely put the breaks on crappies for a few days.
