Planning on buying my first copper rig. Think of getting a 450 paired with the Tekota 800LC and Okuma GLT 8.6 leacore/copper rod. Also, mainly plan on running this down the chute.

Questions:

1. Any comments/suggestions on the combo I mentioned or better recommendations?

2. My thought for buying the 450 is that I can only run the copper part way out if the fish are higher...ie only put the 450 out 200 on the line counter if the fish are in the 40-50ft range. Is there a problem doing it this way? Can I run it off the board with a release doing it this way?

3. If I'm running the copper down the chute and have a wire dipsey out on each side should I pull the copper when doing turns?

Thanks in advance.

For versatility, I would go with a 500 or 600 and run it the way you are talking. Lots of times in the season, lots of kings are below the capabilities of a 450' copper. My 500 was my go to copper last year. If you want to stick with the 450, you can add dive bombs to it and let extra line out. As for pulling it when making turns, if turns are made slowly, it should not be a problem.
