Home port name?

So documented vessels have home port/hailing requirements, but state registered vessels have no such requirements as far as naming your "port" goes.

So who names their port as the place where they launch/dock, or do you use your home town. I have always used my home town, but thats doesn't make sense since I have used Oswego as my seasonal "port" for many years and the boat(s) never leaves the lake. any thoughts?

I always figured it was to be the port in which the boat calls"home". Kind of so others know where the boat is from for various reasons.
