Hi All,

Brand new to forum. From Massachusetts & saltwater fishing for Striped Bass & Blue Fish on Cape Cod.

My two brothers & are coming to Syracuse from 9/14 -9/16 to p/u an engine for my 1966 Boston Whaler 13'3" Sport. Would love to fish Lake Ontario or other waters w/in an hour or two so of Syracuse. We've never fished at all in this region & are clueless where to go, what to fish for, & tackle/techniques. Also want to camp as close to water/on the water (but and could some campground referrals). Prefer to get out on the water in our little Boston Whaler & hopefully catch some fish!

We're used to surface casting & trolling at what you'd consider shallow depths for blue fish in the 6-12 lb range & striped bass in the 5lb - 30 lb range. Don't have any downriggers to troll at great depths. Can you help us out? Also would consider hiring a local guide for Saturday & would appreciate some referrals.

Thanks,

head north on rt 81 out of syracuse and and take the mexico exit 34. take a left go to mexico and take a right past the fire house on to rt 3 .you will hit a intersection of rt 3 and 104b. take a left and about a mile down the road you will aright after jons lil salmon tackle shop theres a right its the state boat launch. launch and go east to the salmon river and troll spoons and j plugs near shore . take a right out of the rt 3 and 104 b intersection and go about 3 miles and theres selkirk shores state campsite right on the lake. with a smaller boat you can launch also in the salmon river it self at the light house marina. keep going past selkirk shores campsites into port ontario about another 2-3 milesyou will come to a stop light. go thorugh it and over the salmon river and take a left at the blinking light and go to the end of the road. there you can launch and go in the lake or fish in the estuary which has salmon in it now too. i think that would be better for you . good luck
