Thought I'd share this pic of the crane I built yesterday and today. I will use it to plant poles and hang rafters. I got duel use out of my Boat wench. Rafters are supposed to be 134lb ea. and 20ft 6x6s should be in that range. I'm 200 and it was very ridgid. I could see me buiding a shorter version to pull an IB engine on a boat.

Couldnt find 2 strong young men with a thirst for beer to do the heavy lifting? We've built 2 already this year, and have another to build in May. I love building barns. Clever idea you have there though.

My work force is getting older and being it's 12ft. walls I figured I'd try this. I only got $43 in it. The barn is going to be 32 X 72.

It was fun building it to. Lots of sight see ers as I built it in the front yard.

I'm going to be building one later this summer 24 by 32 any idea how much labor will be I'm not up for the task myself. I walked through a calulator on carter lumbers site and materials run 5500-5800 depending on doors. Any advice for a pole barn noob.

K GoneFishin' I am a contractor located in the Newfane/ Olcott area. The cost to build a 24 x 32 x 8 with 3 8x8 overhead doors, 2 windows, and a man door is $10,000 plus the cost of the overhead doors (about $490 apiece installed) We just built one with those exact dimensions 2 weeks ago. Concrete and fill would be extra (around $4 per sq ft for 4" of stone and 4" of concrete, plus $20 per extra ton of stone needed)

Make it bigger and higher than you need. They are like a black hole sucking in all the stuff your wife wants out of her way!!!

Just got my engineered truss drawings. I don't know who told me they would be 134lb last year. This drawing says 244lb. That make me feel a little better about spending 2 days building that crane.

Couldn't have done it without the help of my hard working friends. We made every second count because WX was calling for down poors. Set 25 poles in 7.5 hrs. Not bad for 4 aircraft mechanics and an electrical engineer from 44- 56 yrs old. Go buy some stock in advil and Tylinol!

Got the headers bolted together, Y braces in and 3/4 of the wall purlins. Almost ready for rafters.

Thanks Lineman. I can pretty much fill it allready. You never build them big enough.

Finished Knee braces, internal truss bracing and Y braces yesterday.
