t was raining when I got up but I put 10 birds to bed last night

where I had earlier built a blind so I had to go. Got in early and put

out a hen in each field along a fence line. As dawn approached I could

see three birds on the roost where I left them last night about 120

yards away.Just after legal shooting time I heard a thundering gobble

from the tree right next to me. Big Tom about 25 yards up that I had

walked under when I put out a decoy. i never even called and when his

feet hit the ground he was mine. Didn't see him fly up last night or I

would never have set up that close. Scouting does pay dividends.. 9"

beard and 1 1/4 " spurs. Look kinda ratty when they are wet!

Good for you now take a friend out there and give him that special day............I'm free in the morning

Congrats and thanks for sharing....a short story on a long beard.....was wondering how the lack of snow would effect the beards this year.......nice spurs too......

Thanks Ray, I definitely would prefer to work one in but on a rainy morning I wasn't going to pass up a golden opportunity on a nice bird that I've scouted.

I had another nice Tom at 25 yards this morning but he made me as I tried to slowly move the gun. Didn't want to risk a running shot.Should have been more patient and waited till he fanned and turned around.

Great job! Can't wait to get home for the weekend and get out turkey hunting up there. Doesn't seem like there's as many birds down here in the Southern Zone where I hunt.
