I went by myself this morning but wish my wife had come. Never the

less, I had a great hunt. I heard the first gobble at 5:10 and he

gobbled again at 5:20. From then till 5:45 I heard 3 birds gobbling on

the ridge near me and 3 more gobble in the across a field in a

woodlot (about a quarter mile away). Each time a hen yelped they would

gobble. I made some tree clucks and yelps to mimic what I heard from

the hens. About 6:00 I heard a couple birds fly down and saw a couple

lite about 80 yards from me. The were in an open strut area along a

logging trail in an opening in the woods. The Tom gobbled a couple

times and I gave some very soft yelps. I had my gun up and caught

movement about 45 yards away. The Tom was in full strut and headed my

direction down the logging trail. I waited till he was at thirty yard

and came out of strut and lifted his head and that is the end of the

story. I was home by 6:20! Now I need to take my wife or friends and

leave my gun at home and get serious about fishing. He had 3/4" spurs

and a 91/2" beard. Two great birds this spring.
