What's the best way to attach a small Yellow Bird Side Planer? The instructions suggest using a release on the front and letting the line slide through a snap on the back end. I am nt sure that I'd want the planer sliding all the way back to the lure/fish. Another suggestion is to run two releases, front and back. I plan on using the planer on a trip way up north. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I always set my inline boards fixed to NOT trip and slide down to the fish. I run Wille Boards and Church boards and the releases are always set tight enough that they do not trip. Keep the rod tip parallel with the water and "side arm" the board to the boat.

Or put bead about a rod length from the lure so that when it trips, it stops short of the fish but allows you to play the fish somewhat normally

It makes a King real grumpy to have that yellow board wacking him upside the head when it slides all the way down ;) Don't ask me how I know  I now use the clamp type offshore release on the board and the or16 with the peg on the back. Makes Mr. King and me much happier
