Back to basics, low tech fishing

I hit a local Indian River Lake this morning and had a ball. No depth finder, GPS, Down riggers, wire dipsies, copper wire, planing boards ...... Just my Gheenoe,, a 6 hp, a paddle, an anchor, a fly rod and some poppers. Although I enjoy fishing for all species it's good to get back to grass roots low tech fun. Oh and I was hitting bluegills on every cast. A mix of all sizes but I kept enough nice ones for a couple meals.

The less needed or used for good results, the better, in many cases...!!! Well done.... sounds like a blast!

Thats still one of my favorite things to do. Even with all my trolling equipment. I have just as much fun standing in my side yard throwing flies at the bluegill and crappies in my pond. Even better if you can get a kid involved.

I agree just pain fun. I just rigged up a copper line and salmon rods but still like to fish panfish.
