My father and i fish on a charter boat everytime we come to ny....we now have our own and are going to run with the charter boat....

couple of questions to set us straight

we are set up for trolling with 4 elect downriggers, 4 dipsys, 2 planer boards with mast, 2 leadcore lines

we are set up for walleye and are going to have to go bigger for your glorious kings

our downriggers we were going to use 20lb flurocarbon ..... ok?

dispys 30lb fluro with 20lb leaders.....ok?

we have tons of spoons ..... colors that work best????

we dont have flies or spin docs.....worth picking some up???

good starting depth and speed ....

any help will be appreciated

Welcome to the site. Not necessary to run full spools of fluro. That's expensive. Tie on a leader. Most guys use wire on the dipseys. Hard to beat green spoons unless i'st with purple on those dark days. Spin doc's probably one of the best investments in tackle. Don't know ehere you intend to go but a good general pattern right now is to start at 90FOW - troll out to 140, back into 115, out to 170 - see the pattern.

Good luck.

Better to run a few lines first (4 or 5) or you're going to run into an ugly mess. Slowly work up from there when conditions permit. This isn't Erie.

If you run regular 20lb mono in flea season (now), you'll have big problems. Go with 30lb or Cortland Flea Flicker Line.

Go with 30lb wire on the dipseys. Mono has waaaay too much stretch unless you're only running them 30-50 feeet out. You'll be be running them out to 350 ft or so.

Definitely pick up Spin Docs and Flies. Stop at a local tackle shop and they'll tell you what's hot.

good starting depth and speed ....

Varies day to day and time of year, but start in 80-90 FOW. Sometimes they are in 400-500 FOW. Talk to the locals about this. 2.2 to 2.8 mph at the ball is a good rule of thumb, but if you're using GPS speed, remember that the currents can impact down speed appreciably.

One of the more important things you will need is a good cooler  There is no sense in trying to learn the in's n out's of fishing this lake and go thirsty doing it  If you have a fishing buddy with a hot g/f, then invite the both of them... especially if the weather is predicted to be hot! ya never know what may result in that :P good music (metallica, Uncle Ted ac/dc... etc.) passes time when your pulling all your stuff 20 ft. above the fish for hours and not getting a hit, while you stare at the hot chick in a bikini  Just a thought!

Also start setting the outside lines then work in. Unless u have a probe. Then set that a

A little below the temp. I do probe rigger, planers, wires, other riggers. Also helps to do a v shape if depth/ideal temp permits. Good luck, leave some screamers for us :)
