How much copper will fit on a tekota 800. I was hoping to get at least 500' with 300 yards of 50lb power pro. Any information on how much backing and copper I can fit on this reel would be greatly appreciated

Depends on what size copper:

500 ft of 50# PP (and a tight fit) if you want to load the reel with 500' of .037 copper.

To get 900' of 50# PP you will only get 400' of .037 copper

Tom, any way to sqeeze 600' of 30lb copper on a Tekota 800? What would that reduce the amount of backing to if it would fit at all? Thank you kindly for any advice...

Not to hi-jack the thread, but do any of you guys know how much backing you can get on a Penn 330 GTI while running 450 ft of copper (if that is even possible).

Thanks

depends on what you use for backing. I have 300 yds of 30 lb power pro behind a 10 color on a Penn 330. you won't get enout backing on if you use mono.

You want AS MUCH BACKING AS YOU CAN FIT on your cores / copper rigs.

I was on Tim's boat this summer and his 10 Color rig took a hit from a freight train, that ran out just about all 300 yards of backing and was still going strong when the leader snapped. You just never know when a trophy will hit and you don't want to get spooled.

Thats no sport to watch the backing melt off and the spool start showing. You don't want to get spooled with the derby winner on. ;)
