Best Places and Time of Year for Salmon or Trout

I am planning a 2013 trip between June 1 and Sept 30 to take my 11 yr old son fising on Lake Ontario for salmon and/or trout. We live in southern Maryland.

I am interested in top 3 recommendations on where along the NY coast is the best port to fish out of, and the best time of year.

Thanks in advance - much appreciate any information you can provide-- inlcuding charters and hotels.

Oak orchard, Oswego or Olcott July-Aug.

After seeing what the Oak is like in July I cant think of a better place for Kings on the South shore. I've heard about missing that bite for years while we strolled down to the East to fish tourneys, but I saw first hand what it's like this year. August and September are also killer out of the Oak, but in late August and early September you can't beat the East end of Lake O. Anywhere from the Oswego to Henderson is dynamite for big Salmon.
