Anybody else notice the health of caught Steelhead looks diminished this year? We took a 5 lb'er yesterday on a flasher/fly-dipsy running along the bottom in 60' FOW. We checked the stomach contents and found only a partially digested 2" gobie. Not to sound alarmist considering all the bait I see offshore, but has anyone found many younger year-classes of alewives or emerald shiners in stomach contents?

75% of the steelhead I have brought on board look malnutritioned...long and skinny...a couple that could not be revived were filleted and you could read the paper through the meat :wondering: ...weight is way down on average from previous years..yes it is disturbing to a degree.

That has not been my experience this year but admittedly I have been chasing them less because I prefer kings. And the alewives that I have seen have been HUGE, not a ton of smaller ones

sometimes its the perspective of the person holding the fish ,,,,,a 10lb stellie in the hands of skipper is like a baitfish in the hands of a normal person....

try using fatter lures..

all i have got in my few trips were very healthy (most were)

All of our bows on the north side looked good, we also only caught one skinny king that had at least 5 separate lamprey marks yet was still 26 lbs
