Well, we are finally here at Keuka for the week, Branchport end. Got settled in 9/8 with some iffy weather and didn't fish. 9/9 we caught a few largemouth and then tried jigging for lakers. Cruised around with the fishfinder hoping to find bait and fish but was unable to. Marked different fish suspended all over the water column in the area of the state park. Jigged 2 up in an hour but both got off before we could see any color. Using 5" white plastics. Gona keep at it until Sat, looks like the temps will get back to what they were. Thanks for all the info guys.

Used to have a lot of problems keeping Keuka Lake LT (smaller size trout) on a normal jig. Cut "damn, another one got off" rate (drove me wacky) by at least 50% by inserting a 1 oz trolling sinker up inside a white ice tube and attaching a no. 2 sharp treble hook to tail end of sinker with a split ring. Catch most of LT on the retrieve. Might be worth a half day trip to Bass Pro in Auburn or Gander Mountain in Rochester. Not sure if local bait shops would have the necessary ingredients. Also, a LOT of the time a majority of the LT are hugging the bottom so you do not see them on the ff screen until you drop the jig (also see on the ff) and it gets near the bottom.

Forgot to mention. A bait needleworks well to assist with getting the sinker up inside the tube (tight fit). Also a Fish Handling (puncture proof) glove is a good thing to have. Just rigged up 4 for Seneca but with a 1/0 hook (bigger trout).

I dont do much jigging but we marked quite a few fish in front of the beach at the state park on the 6th evening . They were suspended that night but they have to be in the area . I rarely mark much for bait on Keuka .

trolling fly flasher behind a diver worked great while we were there . Small tackle shop up pepper rd on the left Fishy business . only open evenings mostly except weekends .

good luck and keep us posted

semperfi,

If you haven't done so already, try different water depths. Starting at say 100 FOW cruise across lake to opposite shoreline. If you mark suspended fish make a note of the depth and then start working that contour up/down the lake. It's not the best but you can get an idea of lake contour from here:

http://www.keukalakeassoc.org/where_maps/keuka_lake_depth.php

Also as guff mentioned above, often they will be laying on bottom undetected by your fish finder. You will see them streaking up the water column on the screen as your jig gets closer to the bottom. When the two lines nearly intersect reel like crazy. It's like cat and mouse...

Hope you see this before you head home semperfi. HOT BITE AT THE BLUFF. Did not get to the end of the bluff until 2:30 today. By 4:30 had 10 LT. LOTS of LT in 75-115 fow just barely off the tip of the bluff and they were HUNGRY. They just love those white ice tubes and the attached treble hook did the hooking job. Note that NONE of the LT did not make it back to the wild because of the extra hooks. Lots of suspended fish so you can see them on your ff. Just dropping the jig to the bottom and then reeling in gets many of them but watching on ff and reeling just before the jig and fish meet (as MOB above said) works even better. GREAT FISHING. However the best thing believe it or not was watching a BIG eagle chase and dive bomb a seagull. That was one mighty lucky seagull because the eagle gave up after 3 tries. Amazing sight. Let us know if you get into them semperfi.
