marine survey costs

Anyone know the cost of getting a marine survey done on

a boat? And am I correct that this would be a cost borne by

the prospective buyer?

there is a guy in buffalo area he just did my new vessal and he charges 13.50 per foot i got back 17 pages on mine

I paid $15.00 a foot by a surveyor out Canastota NY and received a 17 page report for an insurance requirement

it will depend on what exactly you want the surveyor to do. If you want a sea trial and a compression check you are going to pay more but it is well worth the money for the peace of mind it gives you. for my 26ft penn yan I paid $450 and received a very detailed report.
