Looking to get a 22mag for squirrels and such was curious what folks thought was the best bang for the buck.

What do you guys thinks about the 22mag/ 20ga over unders?

Bang for the buck, it's hard to beat the savages w/an accutrigger. Dicks has em for like 250 right now, I prefer ruger 77/22's but they aren't nearly as affordable as the savages

buy a ruger 17.. bolt action. the gun is the best.. out shoots the 22 mag all day long.. shoot coyotes, bobcats, ducks anything  with that gun..the gun shoots like 2550 fps.. you will love the gun

I have a Marlin - $120 gun with a $200 scope. Seems stupid but their button rifled barrels are second to none. This rig consistently takes ground hogs at 150 yds. Best buy I ever made in a small gun.

Well i would not recommend the 17 for anything bigger than a woodchuck. My friend lost a few yotes before he figured out it wasnt enough gun. I have a bolt action marlin 22 mag that i have had for 15 years and its a great gun. It has been cleaned maybe 2 times and i use it all the time and its always worked flawlessly.

And back to your post, savages are great shooters but it boils down to what you want to spend or bolt vs semi that caliber has options from single shot to AR platforms

I second the Marlin bolt gun. I have both the 22 mag and 17 HMR. The 17 has more range, the mag more punch. For squirrels either would be fine. If I had to choose I'd pick the 17. Just a fun cartridge that out performs it's size.
