A person may not fish for a species (not even catch and release) during the closed season for that species on a given water.

But people do it all the time. They say they are fishing for Brown trout or Walleye on the bar.

There's no argument, Tim just made a fact a little more well known. Hopefully this will help someone avoid a ticket.

Jamie,

yes, they did that specifically for bass, and select inland trout streams as well for catch and release during the closed season, but those exceptions are clearly called out in the regulations.
