FYI, Lake Trout season is closed until the first of the year.

You can TARGET Lake Trout. You cannot KEEP Lake Trout until Jan 1.

A person may not fish for a species (not even catch and release) during the closed season for that species on a given water.

But people do it all the time. They say they are fishing for Brown trout or Walleye on the bar.

Didn't they change state law for bass? You can catch them before opening date, just not keep them?

yes, they did that specifically for bass, and select inland trout streams as well for catch and release during the closed season, but those exceptions are clearly called out in the regulations.
