Hunchback of Chautauqua Lake

Hit the water for a couple hours yesterday and was able to boat two. Nothing huge but one of the muskies we got had a really unique body shape to it.

Have any of you ever seen a hunchback like this???

I've seen this once or twice before but I've never seen a pike or tiger look like this. Water temps on Chautauqua down to 42-44.

On a side note: My other post from last week got deleted (incase some of you were wondering) because the site got hacked and we lost some posts and private messages in that process. Very frustrating as my post from last week was one that got lost. We traced the hackers back to somewhere in Russia. Will be looking into some long term solutions to prevent this sort of thing from happening again. We lost about 12 hours worth of data before restoring the site.

Yes BlueEye... a question from a relative electronics and computer dinosaur.... whatever could a hacker from anywhere hope to find trolling around and stealing (is that the key word?) at this forum...? Does it happen sort of accidentally, say, collateral damage due too heavy handed techniques (or idiocy)? Maybe gathering data for some other kind of bigger attack somewhere in the future? Sale of info? Maybe something that is trying to be learned? I mean, what would be their motivations. Just fishing for any info that might lead to .......what?? "Tech" savvy types feel free to chime in, but only if U can translate in plain English for us poor ignorant and susceptible underlings.....

I saw a pic in musky hunter magazine of a 52"er that died trying to eat a full size muskrat. The front half of it looked a lot larger for obvious reasons.....lol. That being said and have caught quite a few tigers myself......no hunchbacks that I can remember. Maybe it has scoliosis? Haha-nice fish regardless!

All of a sudden spam pops up as messages. Any stored info such as e-mail addresses or credit card info (professionals) may be compromised. Easy sites that make no noise when hacked are used as training ground before going on to bigger and better things.

Chad, I've caught quite a few Tigers with that hump. Asked a DEC officer about it and he said it's normal during spawning. I don't know if it's true, I never opened one up to look for eggs. Strictly C & R.

Also, DEC reports that Tigers are a hybred and don't spawn, but in the same breath they say about 1% of them do spawn, but the numbers are considered insignificant.

Rolmops/Panfisher - the spammers found a way to automate the registration process and then post links back to their websites. They are not able to get into database with passwords - all encrypted, plus they have no motivation there anyways. Their motivation here was simply to post lots of spam links back to their websites and try to get users to click on them and drive traffic over there. We lost posts and private messages during the backup restore process (not because of hackers). We don't store any financial information on the site anywhere.

Bob/Tigerhunter - Thanks for sharing. That is interesting Bob that they said it is normal during the spawn. I'll have to see if I can find out any more information on this. Will post if I do.

Those humpbacks have been failry common for us at Chautauqua over the years. We probably get a few humpbacks every year at Chq. Most of the time they seem to be mid to upper 30 inch fish. The hump is always right behind the head...almost looks like the fish has shoulders. I know alot of my friends catch them also. My guess is that the humpback is some kind of common hatchery deformity.

Adam - agreed! I talked for a little while last night with Mike Sperry and he said same thing. He has seen many as well over the years and calls them "Buffalo Heads" - haha. My father has seen similar deformities out on Lake Ontario as well most likely caused when the fish was juvenile. I wonder what a 50" Buffalo Head would look like?? Scaryyyy!

The walleye gods have spoken, Lake Erie website www.walleye.com has been saved, Walleye Rick (founder of wedsite) saved the site,it's back up and running, thanks to alot of hours and hard work from Rick.
