Seneca Seneca Landlocks at South End

Thanks to the generosity of Admiral Bird and his 19 ft Penn Yan we got out today (all day) after the landlocks. Initially we trailered to Severne but once there determined that because it was so windy and with all the whitecaps etc. it might be prudent to launch out of Watkins so we went there instead. There were about 15 or 20 boats there many perch fishing but we set our lines just out of the channel and trolled past the salt plant on the west side without anything happening, We ran (2) 5 leader seth green rigs, two leadcores and a wire rig with dipsey and spindoctor and downrigger with slider. Ran mostly variety of spoons (Suttons etc.) In short, not much happening in the AM after trolling both sides. The afternoon was quite different....we went 10 fish for 12 hits with 9 landlocks (mostly small ones) and a decent laker. Most came off the seth green rigs but one also on the dipsey /leadcore combo. Nothing on the wire rig/spin doctors or dodger combinations but had 2 brief hits. No hits on downrigger. Most fish came out west from the mouth of the channel in 90-145 ft water and at many different depths within that range. Marked bait on west side but down very deep (280 ft plus) No real super specimens caught but a lot of fun. We quit at dark and had a bit of a time with large ice floes that blocked the launch ramp because there was a very strong current running and they were moving outward. I kept one landlock for the grill (pictured). All in all it was a fun day and certainly an improvement on sitting at home wondering what was happening out there. Oh....two doubles and one triple

we fished sunday started late (8ish). had a tough time batteling the wind. fising was slow boated five small LL lost one about 3lbs at the boat and had some knock offs. nothing specil but is always nice to get out.

Geez.....where are the rest of the reports? We recognized some of the boats that were out there as guys from the forum.....but why no reports? I hope folks aren't returning to the old "secretive" ways Thanks for yours Ifishy...

I was one out there. Best was right down the middle of the lake, diretly in front of the canal. We got lots of landlocks and one rainbow. small fish, we threw all but one back. We were getting all our hits on the inside rods on the boards, so we ran a flatline and it worked well too. Best colors were blue and hot steel Rapalas. In fact we had no hits on any other colors. Also had some bites on the riggers from 20 down to 60. One was a DW crazy **** slim and the other was a spook. Ran a fixed cheater 5 ft above and had one bite on that on a dirty white boy.We had a dipsey out also but had no success on it.

launched out of the south end around 6:30. got lots of small ll on the west side in about 100ft of water, we could not even get the boards on. the salmon were hitting as soon as the 5th color of leadcore was off the reel.caught and released about 10 on 1 pass up to the salt plant.later that morn. we headed out to 150ft or so, lake trout were hot on f.f. and hot michigan dolphin spoons on riggers down 135ft.caught 2 lake trout over 30". we went 8 for 12 on lake trout and lost 1 nice brown at the boat.conditions were perfect and the lake was like glass most of the day.

We did about the same however we stayed in closer trying to find bigger salmon which didn't happen. We 're going t switch to Cayuga for a change of scenery. For us it's been hit and miss on Seneca plenty of small LLs so the future looks bright. It the winds cooperate we'll be out Saturday.

That was us................you have the right idea! However, nice day for a boat ride! We're gonna check out Cayuga for a change of pace then probably move up towards Severne! We've done OK on the south end but really haven't found the big boys! Plenty of undersize LLs and 17" to 19" class LLs. We found the browns at 50' with most success on spoons, dipseys have produced little this year for us!

We did a lot of nice salmon on our dipsys. Setting 3 out 100. Most of the small fish were on the surface down a

to about 20 foot. The fishing on Cayuga was much much slower for us. We went hours with out a touch and the beach fishing is very slow.

Thanks for the update on Cayuga, we're not expecting much other than a good outing. The winter fishing (IMO)has slacked off a bit but that's the way it goes these lakes seem change year to year. I like the topwater stuff and Cayuga has been good to us in the past. We'll work the top at daybreak and drop down and we'll see what happens. It will be interesting if the lamphrey issue is still there!

Its still there big time. The 3 decent fish we caught were skinny and all were scarred bad! Open wounds!

We have a serious problem on Cayuga.

We only had one that had a semi fresh mark on it last Saturday. That was out of 10 fish. On the south end of Cayuga.

Scott, how deep are you running and are you targeting lakers?

Lampry are a very big issue on cayuga. now there is another influx of young lampry in the lake so the few fish that made it through this last year will have to run the gauntlet for at least one more year. But enjoy the boat ride.

I trolled the gopro on the rigger for four hours. Watched all the footage and no sign of eels but lots of fish....DEC has done good in seneca treating the eels, however last year I did see some big ones hit my deck that are no longer with us, may they rest in PIECES

cayuga has had an eal problem brewing for a few years ..started when the fishing was just getting good ..no money for eal treatement no money for anything ....and to top it all off it is a problem heading to seneca ....so what are all those monster pods you mark and cant catch a fish ... but pull weights up with eals on them HMMMM BAIT OR EAL PODS ....HELL HARD TO LOOK BACK AND NOT SEE ONE ON THE BOAT OR FOLLOWING IT
