Okuma Convector size for downrigger rod

Planning on paring the blue diamond series rods with convector reels for my rigger rods. I lookd at the line capacity on both and I know 30lb is pretty much the standard to keep the fleas off. Could i get away with the 20's or should i get the 30's in terms of the reel.

The 20D will definitely work but a good fish might be able to spool you. I'd go with the 30D if you can.

I use a 30D for wire and like it. Haven't been spooled yet but came close once.

I use the Blue Diamonds also and I have 20s for Brown Trout & 30s for Salmon. I also use 45s on my dipsy rods. You can't go wrong with these set ups.

Another trick is to spool up with 20lb and tie on about 100-150 ft of 30. That last section of 30 is what's in the water the most and will not collect fleas.
