I would set it up so that the screw won't be holding the tension just the large shaft from the surface mount to the ball. Then for transport it will be in the upright position.  My biggest hesitation is that the base is made from plastic.

 

I can put them on this weekend and give a full report before you drop the coin on them.

Personally, I wouldn't trust em to hold up to the stress of Diver duty.

That was my thought too so I figured a tether would be in order just in case.

Just ordered 2 Berts ratcheting rod holders and 12" tracks. Done with beating my head against the wall!

You have to watch the big Jon when you run two 47 size reeks and up next too each other they space them close together so when you pull one rod out it could catch another and you could lose it. I believe the triples are the worst just something to be aware of

Bert's ratcheting rod holders are the best esp. If you run mag divers.they are built very well.
