Here's what's on my 9.8 Tohatsu-

Here's the setup on my 5HP where it already had a hole through it.

If the part I have works you can have it if you want. It might be too small. I'll check for some flat-stock to rig up another like on the bigger motor.

That's a great idea! Better than drilling. I did find the holes jimski was talking about. Going to try to use the holes and then if that fails will try the bracket idea.

I had a 97' Honda 9.9 with the handle shown in the pick you posted and I just drilled 2 small holes made a triangle out of some small metal links and used the ball to connect the 2 pieces and it worked perfectly. It took 5 sec.

Here is a picture of what the bracket looks like on my 9.8 Nissan - The bracket came with the motor when I bought the motor used from someone who had a steering wheel cable connected to it.

just in the driveway... seems to work pretty well but we will see i am trying to get out this weekend
