Thinking about hitting the bar if the winds are light this weekend. Anybody Know what the ice situation is? Are the launches at the fort open? Any info would be appreciated.

God willing I will be drifting for lakers.  Conditions will be right with light S winds.  The south launch is usable.  The north launch is too shallow.

There was some skim ice and some bigger chunks throughout the river this past Sunday. Nothing to really worry about.

Gill-T any tips? Never fished the bar. Big minnows and kwikies I hear. I'll be out in a 16 ft tiller. Thats why things are very weather dependent.

Drift the tail-out in front of the green can.  Bottom comes up quick from deep water to 12'.  Bring your baits up as you come up the shelf.  Three-way rigs with a lead pencil weight minnow or quickfish.  On the minnow I run a cheater hook in the tail of the bait.  These fish have been caught before and often know how to nip a bait off a hook.
