Johnson part number

I need the pinion gear for my 6hp Johnson outboard's recoil starter, as it snapped last weekend. Can anyone possibly provide the correct part number for it? Model number of the outboard is 6R-71G. Places I'm calling say it is not available or is obsolete. Thanks!

yea marine engine parts has the one you need just looked it up with the number you provided. their part number is 0318447 it said it replaces the orignal one hope this helps

i come up with a dif.part number here i the link to boats.net the link is right to your motor.i have alway had good luck with them. and oldkevin is right the part number for the replacment one is right and is $5 cheaper at boats.net

I buy religiously from marineengine.com they have great prices and ship fast. Only thing is the overnight will generally cost as much as the part if not twice as much.

That pinion gear has 2 serial numbers 0311189 and the number that superceeded it which is 0318447. The number you need is 0318447.

You can get this pinion gear online for about $18.

Thanks for all the help. I ordered the pinion gear and a new roll pin (just in case the old one breaks coming out). Hopefully have the kicker running again by next weekend!
