Interesting. Thanks Tom. Ironically, early reports this season from Michigan Captains who are on the water every day, indicate huge schools of large alewife and above average Chinook sizes. Did they act too quickly in their decision to cut stocking for this season? Perhaps. I will say this, I spent a fair amount of time fishing that lake in the early to mid 80's, and their Salmon never had the build of Lake O Salmon. Anyways, a Kings a King. 8 pounders are tackle wrecking screamers and we are blessed to have what we have.

Vince,  I'm thinking they made a good decision as it gives the alewives a chance to bounce back and their salmon will be on the upswing.

I think the DEC reacted right back in the day when they cut stocking.  They allowed the system to absorb the shock of the zebra/Quagga muscles without stressing the ecosystem past recovery.  I hope Michigan recovers.  I can't imagine being on the verge of losing the fishery we all love.
