I fished a small Indian River Lake with my fly rod this afternoon. Sunfish were shallow on the beds and bluegills were on the outside weed edges. Fish were very cooperative taking both the popper and the bead head nymph dropper. I caught fish of all sizes but plenty of nice ones to eat and freeze. It really is a blast to catch them this time of year.

Way to go Kevin! I haven't fished with flyrods for about 30 years but that sure sounds like a blast......I'm kinda stuck on the ultralights these days and tonight will be using them on walleyes on Honeoye Lake. There are also some big Crappies and Gills and Sunny's there....

Keep at it and best of luck.

Fly rod is definitely a fun way to go. I also caught a couple bass, perch, rock bass, and crappie. I hear Honeoye is good for walleye. When I was a kid we use to catch huge red bellied sun fish their on red wigglers we dug from the apple pressings at a cider mill.

Ditto on Kevin's report.  Fished a central NY lake and had a blast with the sunfish & gills on my 3 wt. flyrod.  Also, tons of big rock bass which altogether resulted in non=stop action.
