Performed an engine check in driveway utilizing standard hose "ears" as water source.
Started engine as normal, but no cooling water indicator stream.

I've had that happen to a Honda I had, put a small wire in the hose and bam! Water! Apparently something decided to build a bug nest or something. Might not be the same but saved me a trip to the mechanics

Almost every year I have a spiders nest in the outlet of my 140 Evinrude. Not uncommon. Clean the port you'll be fine.

If all that doesn't work get the impeller checked out ....it could save you your engine....when was the last time you changed it?

It would be nice if people would reply after finding out what was wrong, others with similar issues would benefit from it.

This has happened on both my outboards in the past.  Now before I store it I put a little piece of electrical tape over it.
