Fish Finder / GPS Combo

After much research and humming around i have came down to between the humminbird 858 and the elite 7 hdi

 

can anyone recomned one over the other? I mainly fish the great lakes (trolling).. How deep does the down scan work?

 

Im leaning towards the elite 7 but i would like some input from you guys

The Ford/Chevy debate. I am looking at the Elite 7 myself. I like the way it has a simple operation and the larger screen etc.

i just purchased the elite 7 myself. absolutly love it  simple operation and the 7 inch sreen is nuts.

no, I am not going to get the HDI. I do not see the point of it for trolling. I am getting the base model with GPS

I run 2 units it is easier to read sonar on a full screen. I have missed bait clouds and fish when running both on the same screen.  I guess it all comes down to personal preference.  FWIW I run my screen refresh on the fast side so I don't miss anything.

I am running an 958 HD combo at the  the helm. I tried a unit with DI but found that the performance at planing speeds with the DI ducer was not as good as the standard 83/200 dual ducer. Also tried a SI unit but didn't see a benefit on Lake O and sold it.

I have multiple units with ethernet connection and can share waypoints, transducers, etc. between units.
