I tried it once a few years back. I used some pretty heavy rubber bands on the shower clip type. They did work for the little bit I ran them like that, but its really not needed. Just run them on a 3-3.5 setting and you should be fine.

You can run dypsy of the church -44 in lines boards...I done it several times.

Aftco roller release to a fixed loop on the planerboard line.  Place dipsy in water, clip line into release, send out board free-spooling/thumbing the dipsy reel so the dipsy maintains it's position in the water.  Once you are at the desired distance away from the boat...lock down the planer reel, zero the line counter on the reel and send the dipsy out to the desired distance.  You just made your 8' transom 50' wide.

This last weekend I took my 200' copper off and put about 275' foot of wire with about 5 foot of 40 pound mono to clip to. I ran it off the otter boat with Scotty power grips and it ran fine. Took no hits but I did have zebra muscles on my hooks and the shallowest I trolled was 85'.
