I am looking for some help catching mid range lakers. I am very successful catching them off the bottom w cowbells but cannot seem to get any mid range fish! I have tried single spoons at varied lengths behind the ball but I can't seem to consistently catch them anywhere but bottom. I would like to fight a few fish without having the drag of the bells. What pound test and how far back should I go? Thank you very much for any info!

Put the bells off the back of your weights, and run your spoon 4 to 6 feet behind. No more drag and it works just as well getting hits.

I don't have much luck with midrange fish either. I check out bigfoot charter's journal on line and he seems to get them early am only then goes deep. He doesn't give too much detail. He rarely catches any bows or browns, just lots of lakers. Check him out. I'm on the east side by the olney place store, maybe we can hook up sometime and combine ideas.

I will check that site out... Thanks! I am going to be out if town next week but would love to do some fishing when I get back. Maybe we could hit Keuka up early one morning.
