What size barrel swivel should I get for connecting 30lb to 18lb..i.e. mono to flourocarbon

I use 3's for most everything to do with my trolling gear. Never had any problems. you want your swivels to be big enough that they can handle the kind of fish you are targeting.

Tie a blood knot... When done right you'll have no problems ; strength or winding thru the guides

Go with a Spro Power Swivel, size 8. Tiny and more than strong enough, and will go right up through your guides.

or even the next size down, size 10, rated at 50 lb, still plenty strong.

Even with the small ones, I can get them through the guides, but they don't make it through my levelwind :(

That's why I stopped using leaders longer than 9'-10' overall length.

What reels?  I've never had a problem getting the #10 spro through a level wind and I have Shimano, Daiwa, Okuma and Penn Reels on board.

#8 or #10 SPRO power swivels are best (50 lb test) and very tiny. If your reel is a Penn or one without an "insert" on the level wind just widen it a little bit with something like a screwdriver or pliers carefully.

I do not use barrel swivels for leaders. I use a double surgeons knot. I have never had one fail. I like my odds better with 1 knot as opposed to 2. However I'm using what Tim is for my blood run wire (fished instead of lead core, not to be confused with wire divers.) And it works fine.

ok, at first  I was planning on using an albright knot which I most likely still will. I was provided info that even though I will be using a SPRO ball bearing swivel on both the SD or the dodger that  Ishould also use a bb swivel for the leader to reduce twist even more? Hence my question of the barrel swivel. At first, I was not going to go the barrel swivel route
