Lowrance HDS series are amazing. I have the HDS 5, but would go for the HDS 8 if I had more room at my helm.

The HDS series can read large map chips. The Elite series can only read a chip less than 2 GB in size, which limits

the maps you can use to lower detailed contours. I had an Elite and upgraded it to the HDS, which I am very happy with.

Don't get me wrong, the Elite is good too, but the HDS has a more powerful sonar output and also more detailed maps.

Hds 7 touch is awesome! Well worth it has all structurescan functions built in. Soo easy to use and faster than the first generation hds. Easily customizable as well. I will never buy anything but lowrance hds ever.

Got an Elite 5 last year, loved it, then Lowrance came out with the 7inch Elite.  Bought that this year.  Love it even more with the wider screen.  Dont have the HDI, dont need it.  If you use the GPS plotter as much as i do, go with the wider screen.

I prefer the larger screens so I can see them anywhere in the boat with ease. I have an HDS 8 with platnium chip and LCX 38HD I have them networked, great mapping and sonar performance, lots of options on both.
