went out in the afternoon and picked a couple of small land locks and a small laker. the wind was blowing pretty good, so I decided to hand pull copper with an old phulger for lakers. Like jigging but you are covering water. I was down 95 ft and on bottom and got a hit. pulled it up and had a smalie just bigger than the lure! put down and got another smalie at 95 ft! Went back in to find the motor stuck in fwd. smalies sure fight!

Dick,

Those smallies sure are aggressive and a lot of folks are fooled into thinking they are only shallow water fish. I've caught them on Seth green rigs 80 or 90 ft down over 300 ft of water as well as huge ones jerking copper at the north end with both pfleugers and twin minnows in the Spring while after lakers. Hope you got the motor thing straightened out OK. Les

when i was a kid my parents took us on a faimlily trip to the 1000 islands i remember my dad drifting over 80-100 ft of water off the main channel and we would catch smallmouth till we limited out this was pushing 30 years ago before the clear water.
