Parasites?

Fished down at murphys today and go 1 keeper out of 17 shorts. The fish had some sort of growths on it. Ive seen them before but not really sure what they are, figured someone on here may know. It was on both gill plates and one on the side toward the tail.

I've seen these lesions on Lake Erie walleyes in the past..... and I think it's virus related..... but I'm not certain.

So I was going to give you the reason that my cousin told me (the same cousin that I call uncle Si) about how they get them from resting in the weed beds, however, I decided to check the internet.  1st hit describes it well.  I have seen it up stream quite aways but not all the way to the head waters.  I think it has something to do with layover places but I do not know what causes it for certain.  Check this out.  I do not see it in the winter or spring.  Only summer and fall.

Yep.. It's a fishy virus and harmless to humans. Ran it past a fisheries biologist a few years ago and got pretty much the same answer as the atricle above. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

lymphocystis, like acne but for fish, it comes and goes. eat em up.

Good link BSmaster. Now, not walleye, but panfish (sunnies) I've seen..... Any info on slow moving weak sunfish with what looks like fuzzy mold or moss growing out of it? Obviously the fish is sick, but what is it....?

I've seen bumps or para sites on walleyes from several different lakes/rivers in new York.

delta lake and Mohawk river most notably.

it has got me concerned as to water quality in these areas
