Hi guys..

Off-topic question. I am getting married in September 2014 and we are looking at the Finger Lakes as a possible honeymoon destination. I am from northern Ohio, I am familiar with Oak Orchard and Rochester areas- but not the Finger Lakes region. Unfortunately we wont be fishing... but interested in Wine country and other fun things. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks for the help!

Troy,

There are hundreds of wineries in this region and the Riesling wine is some of the best out there. Check here for some ideas: http://www.fingerlakeswinecountry.com/

There are many bed and breakfasts in the area that far surpass staying in a motel. http://www.flbba.org/

Here is a real nice winery you may want to visit http://www.drfrankwines.com/visit-our-finger-lakes-winery and here is another nearby that one that is my favorite: http://www.heronhill.com/

There are so many good ones in the FL region to check out and it would take days to visit them all.

Also locally here where I live in Canandaigua is my favorite eating place (informal dress too) and they have wine tasting as well The Bistro http://nywcc.com/upstairs-bistro at the NYS Wine and Culinary Center http://nywcc.com/

Good luck!

Aurora Inn. Taughannock Falls Inn. Also look into renting a cottage right on the lake

Troy. I live right near the lake. And slip my boat there. First off. Congratulations. I too am taking the plunge in July.
Seneca has the best wine tour out of all of them. Weather you choose one side or the other or try the whole thing. I recommend the east side from hector to Three Brothers Winery. Great time. The fiancee and I do this trip annually. The Watkins Glen Gorge is fun along with the gorge on Cayuga lake. Many attractions in the area. Great nightlife in Watkins as well. Geneva too. And as for what mower said, a cottage rental is a good deal. I have many clients who rent cottages and they say it blows the hotels out of the water.
Wish you luck,
Plan on an extended (say at least a week....if possible) to be able to enjoy and find stuff to "engage" in. All the tips above r good. Suggest late in the month to get some early color, if the weather (first frosts) occur. Really nice region with those colors!! No fishing? Then set up a time to go back that time of year again as fall is excellent for that. Congratulations :) !

Taughannock Farms Inn blows most others right out of the water. There is the Inn itself which is almost unique in its beauty and right next to it easily within walking distance are the falls and the gorge and then there is the park just a few hundred yards away.

I think that they have a bridal suite

Avoid the Aurora Inn, it has a lot of fancyness and advertising, but it is way expensive and the food is forgettable . Take it from a local
