I was always thought the larger rod gave the angler more leverage.  Only reason I run the longer rods is the ability to get around my riggers easier and net fish easier.  I ran some 8' rods and they seemed harder to fight fish on.

Yup, a longer rod is always better.....lol

You have the lever from the butt to the forgrip.  The fish has the lever from the forgrip to the tip.   Those big saltwater rods for tuna and stuff arn't very long.  My old fishing partner couldn't bring in a wire fish with the longer rods, and he could with the short ones.   They work for me !  :)
