Not sure if they are legal to use in NY fresh waters...better check but the bait is usually too small for the mesh. Emeralds are pretty skinny!<br />

I think Mark may be right....I don't think they are legal in the Fingers or Ontario.

I looked it up from my understanding they are legal just 1000ft away from trib mouths I just wanted to see if anyone used this tactic.

Les, I think your right. Fingerlakes has specific regs on bait and the collection there of with dip nets only. I am not familiar with commercial bait license though. The other thing lots of people tend to forget is having to use them on the water you collected them at if there alive otherwise you fall into having to get them tested. Yikes now I know why there 10 bucks a doz. Cast nets at night will work for saw bellys but so would a 5 hp generator with a wand standing in Catherine's in March for trout. Just can't do it from my understanding.
