Before all the bait restrictions we used to used large smelt we caught in Erie for pike bait on tip ups and they work great. Is it illegal to use a smelt or bait from Lake Erie / Niagara river in the bays on Ontario? Obviously they are not the same waterway but are connected.

I think as long as the bait is certified and you have the receipt verifying that, your good, if it's not cert, I think there s a transportation issue but there is a stipulation for a travel corridor on Lake Ontario that might allow you to transport them. Someone on here I'm sure would know.

Year's ago my dad and I used frozen smelt right from the supermarket for northerns. They outfished live bait. Wonder what the ruling would be on that.
